Fantasy football: top 10 waiver wire Week 1 pickups
3. Cooper Kupp
Realistically, we don’t know what this new, revamped, Sean McVay-led offense will look like. Similarly, we don’t know who will be Jared Goff’s number one go-to target, but based on preseason play – he’s a fan of his rookie Cooper Kupp.
The Rams brought in Robert Woods, Sammy Watkins, Josh Reynolds and third-round pick Kupp this offseason, wanting to rejuvenate an attack that looked devoid of talent last year. Woods, a free agent signing from Buffalo, doesn’t look like a strong fantasy option. He had between 500 and 700 yards in each of his four years as a Bill, and no more than five touchdowns in a season. Watkins is the star here, but it might take him a little time to adapt – Goff had a ball picked off against the Chargers when looking Watkins’ way. Reynolds, a fourth-round pick, looks to be further down the depth chart for now.
While we can expect Watkins to establish himself as the dominant “alpha” receiver and lead the team in yardage and big plays, Kupp could be a PPR king. In Week 2 of the preseason, Goff looked his was repeatedly as Kupp hauled in six balls for 70 yards and a touchdown, dominating in the middle of the field in traffic. He’s a very skilled route runner, a big body, and someone who’s savvy enough to find the open field like a veteran. Kupp could be a huge asset immediately.
