2018 NFL Mock Draft: Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen top first round
By Brad Weiss
The Dallas Cowboys were the class of the NFC during the regular season in 2016, as they rode two 2016 draft picks to the best record in the conference. First round pick Ezekiel Elliott ended up leading the NFL in rushing yards, while fourth rounder Dak Prescott took over for the injured Tony Romo at quarterback and won Rookie of the Year honors. It was a banner year for the Cowboys, who ended their season on a sour note, losing at home in the Divisional Round to the Green Bay Packers.
As they head into the 2017 campaign, questions still linger as to whether or not Elliott will have to serve his six-game suspension for domestic violence. They have a solid roster throughout, so it is very likely that they will be drafting towards the bottom of round one. With that pick, they should look to add a wide receiver, giving Prescott another big time weapon in the passing game.
Calvin Ridley from Alabama was born to play for the Cowboys, possessing the kind of big-play ability that team owner Jerry Jones loves. He has played in the biggest of games during his time with the Crimson Tide, and is one of the more NFL-ready wideouts in college football. With Dez Bryant beginning to get older in terms of wide receiver age, he would be a good player to take the torch.
Prescott is going to have a huge career, and it will be up to the organization to keep adding weapons around him. The offensive line is set, and aside from the suspension, Elliott should be a league leader in rushing every season. Ridley has that star power you expect from America’s Team, and maybe he will help them actually win a playoff game for once.
