Others of note

Royce Freeman, RB, Oregon

Because Oregon was bullying Southern Utah in Week 1 to the tune of 77 points, Royce Freeman’s massive night was dampened a bit. Still, you have to keep an eye on him if he’s going to continue to be a scoring machine. Freeman amassed 150 rushing yards to go with four scores while also adding another 50 receiving yards.

Bryce Love, RB, Stanford

Sure, it was against a Rice Owls team that looked as if they didn’t belong on the field with Stanford. But Bryce Love made everyone say “Christian McWho?” in the Cardinal’s opener in Australia. He’s likely not going to continue to be able to average 13.8 yards per carry, but if he can keep producing at a high clip, he’ll be a player who’s hard to ignore.

Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State

Mason Rudolph was damn near perfect in Oklahoma State’s drubbing of Tulsa last Thursday as he went 20-for-24 with 303 yards and three touchdowns. The veteran also added a rushing touchdown for good measure. With that said, there is so much quarterback talent in the Heisman race that he needs to do a bit more to firmly assert himself as someone who needs to be in the heart of the mix.

Ronald Jones II, RB, USC

As of right now, Ronald Jones II isn’t getting any Heisman love at all. He wasn’t in the preseason and still remains the second-best candidate on the USC Trojans. However, the way he ran against Western Michigan showed something special. If he can continue to produce at that clip in Week 2 against Stanford and moving forward, he might insert himself more heavily into the conversation.
