Sit: Ty Montgomery

Montgomery has been at the heart of the offseason’s fantasy debates. Is he ready to be a full-time runner? Is the backfield all his? How should we value him? Ultimately, he settled in as a third round pick in most leagues – a high price for an unproven player at the position. While he may ultimately live up to that price over the year, he’s going to have some worried owners by Sunday night.

The Green Bay Packers open their season against the Seattle Seahawks, and if you know anything about Seattle – it’s probably that their defense is perennially one of the best in the league. Last season, they had a top five defense overall, and led the league against the run. While Aaron Rodgers tends to make any defense look normal, it’s still extremely tough to imagine anyone outside of ARod to having success.

Last season, Montgomery had 12 touches, 86 yards and a touchdown against the ‘Hawks, but allowing 38 points was very uncharacteristic of this defense. I can’t see it happening again, and when they step up their game, they are capable of shutting down any team’s best playmakers. I wouldn’t take the risk with Montgomery in the first fantasy game of the year.
