NFL lines, Week 1: 5 best bets
By John Buhler
1. New York Jets (+9.5) at Buffalo Bills
The best bet of the week might also be the worst game of the week. Unless you really love AFC East football, there is almost no reason to watch the Buffalo Bills host the New York Jets. Both teams have made great strides to improve their odds at drafting a franchise quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft already. It’s September.
Furthermore, there is no reason the Bill should be laying 9.5 points to anybody. Not the Jets, not the Cleveland Browns, not anybody. For that reason, take the pitiful Jets getting 9.5 points. on the road against Buffalo.
Just to prove how off this line might be, AFC North favorite Pittsburgh is laying 10 points to the Browns in Week 1. Keep in mind that many view the Steelers as the second-best team in the AFC after the New England Patriots. Cleveland loved getting over 10 points a game last season, but the Browns won’t be that bad this season. They’ll win a few games.

Don’t expect the Josh McCown Jets to beat the Bills in Orchard Park. However if rookie Nathan Peterman starts over the incumbent Tyrod Taylor, look out, NFL world! New York is probably not going to win this game, or any game this season for that matter. That being said, take the Jets getting 9.5 points on the road against Buffalo.
