Alex Smith hits Tyreek Hill for a 75-yard touchdown vs Patriots (Video)

The New England Patriots secondary somehow lost Tyreek Hill.
No, Patrick Mahomes did not make a guest appearance on opening night. Alex Smith is still the Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback, and apparently he can throw it farther than 10 yards.
Smith and the fastest man in the NFL, Tyreek Hill, connected on a 75-yard touchdown pass, and when I say Hill was open, I mean he was WIDE open. The touchdown gave the Chiefs a 21-17 lead in the third quarter.
It was clearly a busted coverage by either Stephon Gilmore or Devin McCourty. Either way, it went for six.
With that touchdown catch Hill is the first player in NFL history with a touchdown of at least 60 yards in five consecutive regular season games.
As for Alex Smith, it appears he’s ready to take some shots down the field with Mahomes in the rearview mirror waiting for his shot. Granted, Hill was as open as it gets, but nonetheless a 75-yard touchdown is still a touchdown.
The Patriots are known for taking away their opponent’s top weapons, and they did just that with Hill and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Before that catch Hill had been limited to five catches for 49 yards.
The Chiefs viewed Hill as a legitimate number one receiver, and so far he’s proven them to be right.
When you play the Patriots in New England you have to play a near perfect game. Aside from a fumble on the first play from scrimmage the Chiefs have pretty much done just that. Alex Smith is statistically having a better night that Tom Brady, and that’s not something you expected to hear coming into Week 1.
The Chiefs are looking to pull off what would be a tremendous ‘upset’ if they manage to knock off the Patriots on opening night. So far, so good for Chiefs Kingdom.
