SEC power rankings, Week 2: Alabama shines, Texas A&M collapses
By John Buhler
Like Auburn, we will know a lot more about the Georgia Bulldogs by this time next week. Georgia has a tough road game on Saturday against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish up in South Bend. The Bulldogs will be without starting quarterback Jacob Eason for the game, who is week-to-week with a knee injury.
That being said, Georgia does have a promising true freshman quarterback in Jake Fromm. He played well in relief of Eason last week against Appalachian State. Georgia may be limited at quarterback to win the conference, but looks to be the favorite to come out of the East this year with the great running game and solid, all-around defense.
The gap between No. 1 and No. 2 in the SEC might as well be the Grand Canyon. Alabama is the only team in the SEC that has a realistic shot at winning the College Football Playoff. Entering Week 2, it would be a complete shocker if any other team in the Power 5 conference makes the playoff at season’s end. Alabama is just that talented.

Though we still have no idea if sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts is cool with moving the sticks vertically, Alabama has reloaded in the front-seven. It laid the smack down on the Florida State Seminoles in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff, 24-7. While it’s still early, this is a playoff team if there ever was one heading into just Week 2 of the college football season.
