The 50 most interesting players in European hoops: Nos. 10-1
3. Nando De Colo, SG, CSKA Moscow
Milos Teodosic may have been CSKA Moscow’s best player over the past few seasons, but it was De Colo who won MVP in 2015-16 as Moscow won Euroleague. The former Spur and Raptor may be the best two-way guard in Europe with Sergio Llull out of commission, and even with new additions in Chacho, Will Clyburn, and Leo Westermann, it’s very much De Colo’s show. He’s a skilled pick-and-roll guard, able to get to the rim against anyone, and with a pull-up game nearly at the level of Shved’s. He’s averaged around 18 points per game over the past two seasons, and has hit the 50/40/90 mark for three straight years. Simply put, he’s Europe’s most efficient scorer.
Now we see if that efficiency can continue when CSKA doesn’t have Milos. Moscow is deeper than usual in the backcourt, and the two titans usually split time anyway last year. But Teodosic brought a gravity that few can match thanks to his court vision, and Rodriguez doesn’t do the same. Can De Colo keep it up this year? That’s what determines CSKA’s ceiling. Either way, though, he’s the type of player that basketball nerds would love, a ruthlessly efficient scorer and solid defender who plays the way modern basketball is supposed to be played.
