I believe that if David Johnson’s injury is very serious, the Cardinals will be straight onto the phone with Chris Johnson and a bunch of other veteran options to find a suitable replacement for DJ. But for now, it’s not a strong week for waiver wire pickups and if there’s a starting running back out there, even if it’s for a game or two, he could be worth a snag.

Across all the fantasy leagues out there that drafted this offseason, I’d be shocked if anyone in any of yours picked up Kerwynn Williams. The idea for Arizona this year was clear – it’s David Johnson’s backfield, and no one else’s. However, now we have to dig deep. Is Williams going to be heavily involved? What can he do for Arizona? How does that help my fantasy team? After being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL draft, Williams has bounced around practice squads and been released multiple times (including three times by the Cardinals!), but has still managed a respectable 5.6 yards per carry average in his career so far (98-545).

It’s likely to be a committee approach in Arizona including a newly-acquired veteran, but even then Williams could be a heavy factor. If you’ve lost another player due to injury and the space is there, give Williams a whirl.
