AL Wild Card Standings

New York Yankees (78-66, .542, +3)

The AL East is somewhat still in play for the Yankees, but their Wild Card is nearly all but assured after a solid week that featured series wins over the Orioles and Rangers. New York won their first series at Camden Yards in 11 tries last week and have made the Orioles their personal punching bag for most of the year.

Minnesota Twins (75-69, .521, – GB)

The Twins lost a series to the Rays last week and split a series with the Royals where one of their wins took a furious ninth-inning rally. Still, they managed to gain ground and now get a chance to beat up on the San Diego Padres. Minnesota kicked off that series with a 16-0 win.

Los Angeles Angels (73-71, .507, 2 GB)

Texas Rangers (72-72, .500, 3 GB)

Kansas City Royals (72-72, .500, 3 GB)

Seattle Mariners (72-73, .497, 3.5 GB)

Tampa Bay Rays (72-74, .493, 4 GB)

Baltimore Orioles (71-74, .490, 4.5 GB)

Toronto Blue Jays (68-77, .469, 7.5 GB)

Oakland Athletics (63-81, .438, 12 GB)

Detroit Tigers (60-84, .417, 15 GB)

Chicago White Sox (57-87, .396, 18 GB)

Los Angeles missed a golden opportunity to move up in the standings with the Twins not really playing phenomenal baseball last week and splitting a series with the Royals. Meanwhile, the Rangers and Royals pushed themselves back up to .500 to theoretically keep themselves in the race. They’ll need to string together a stretch of eight wins in 10 games to really gain any ground with the Twins facing a weak schedule for the rest of the year. The Orioles have completely fallen apart. With their offense shutting down, their playoff hopes are on life support.
