Tyquan Lewis

DL, Ohio State

One poor game isn’t enough to hurt a top tier prospect like Lewis much, but his position on the big board dropped after an uneventful showing against Brown and the Sooners.

Lewis was unable to record a single tackle and had just one pass breakup in Ohio State’s loss Oklahoma, as the Sooners’ offensive line provided plenty of protection for quarterback Baker Mayfield. That was a far cry from Lewis’ opener against Indiana when he had two sacks and two tackles for loss, as it was a bit of a shock to see to see such a disruptive player held off the board.

The reigning Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year went off as a sophomore in 2015 with 14 tackles and eight sacks. While Lewis dropped off a bit last season from that torrid pace, a season with 10 tackles for loss, another eight sacks and three forced fumbles.

Standing out as the best NFL prospect on a stacked Ohio State defensive line isn’t easy, but Lewis is a physically gifted edge rusher with the strength and size to be an elite run defender at the next level. A few don’t believe Lewis will be an effective pass rusher due to his relative lack of explosiveness, although he owns good sack numbers over the past two years.

Lewis will look to get back on track in a much easier matchup on Saturday afternoon against Army.
