College Football Week 3: NFL Draft big board rankings
Sutton has taken off in the offense of third-year head coach Chad Morris at SMU, and NFL scouts are taking notice.
The senior wideout put up a career game in SMU’s romp over North Texas with eight catches for 163 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those scores were on splash plays of over 35 yards, including an impressive 63-yard catch and run to get the Mustangs back in the game while down 10-0.
After coming to SMU as a defensive back, Sutton switched over to wide receiver as a redshirt freshman in 2015 and put up 846 yards on 49 receptions. SMU targeted Sutton much more often last year, and he responded by reeling in 76 catches for 1,246 yards and 10 touchdowns.
At 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds, Sutton has a long frame, and his excellent ability on jump balls makes him lethal in the red zone. The physical traits are all there, and Sutton could be a force at the next level if he can show some development on his route running.
Next week will be a big opportunity for Sutton to continue his climb up the big board when the Mustangs take on a good TCU team.
