3. Detroit Lions at New York Giants

Sign me up for this one. We’ve got two NFC Wild-Card teams from last season facing off on Monday Night Football.

The Giants offense looked completely lost without Odell Beckham against the Cowboys. Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard provided no offensive spark, as the Giants coughed up just three total points on the night.

With the way the NFC East looks this year, there’s not going to be much of a drop off. You could make the case that at least three teams have a shot at winning the division this season. The Giants cannot afford to drop to 0-2, especially given the strength of their schedule this season. With upcoming games against the Buccaneers, Broncos and Seahawks, these early weeks seem to carry even heavier implications if the Giants want to make the postseason.

I’ll be looking to see how newly paid Matthew Stafford fairs against one of the most dangerous secondaries in the NFL. Janoris Jenkins and Landon Collins know how to capitalize off of a quarterback’s mistake. The Lions got off to a slow start against the Cardinals, but were able to muster their way back with 20 fourth quarter points. Against the Giants defense, that’s not going to be as easy. One errant side-arm throw by Stafford could result in a pick-6 going the other way.

This will be the real first test if Stafford’s $135 million arm is really worth the cost.
