23. Anderlecht
If ever a 3-0 scoreline flattered a team it was in Bayern Munich’s win over Anderlecht at the Allianz Arena. The Belgian side was reduced to 10 men early on and went one down to a Robert Lewandowski penalty.
Yet the setbacks hardy deterred the visitors. Instead, Anderlecht twice struck the woodwork before Bayern eventually added to their tally.
The fact Munich didn’t double the lead until the 65th minute, spoke volumes about Anderlecht’s resistance. A goal in the final minute from Joshua Kimmich added gloss to the scoreline, gloss flattering Bayern, but proving harsh on the away side.
Anderlecht are a capable outfit with plenty of pace and guile in forward areas. Nicolae Stanciu and Lukasz Teodorczyk provide those qualities, while Leander Dendoncker is a burgeoning talent in midfield.
A squad this deep and talented will have easier nights and better fortune in this season’s Champions League.
