Prediction

It’s going to be difficult for the 2017 edition Clemson vs. Louisville to live up to what last year’s game was. Not only are these two differently constructed teams coming into Saturday’s clash, but it’s a tall ask for any teams to match or top a back-and-forth shootout that produced 78 combined points. This game likely won’t be such a high-scoring affair, but it should be a game that again is tight throughout all 60 minutes of the action.

As devastating as Clemson’s defense can be, there’s only so much that you can limit Lamar Jackson. There’s quite literally no hope of completely shutting the Louisville quarterback down, as he’s far too dynamic as a rusher in addition to being even better this season throwing the ball. Thus, the home team is going to put up points and the Tigers will have to match.

Even though Bryant has yet to fully prove himself at quarterback, the visiting Tigers should be able to move the ball well. The biggest change for the Cardinals this season is that their defense is noticeably less effective, even with some high-end talent at some positions. Thus, the away team should be able to control the clock with a varied rushing attack and move the bell well also.

Therefore, the outcome of this huge ACC matchup should come down to which team is able to get stops in critical moments late in the game. While Bryant’s inexperience could help make a case for the Cardinals being the team to do that, the more likely outcome is that the vaunted Tigers defense lives up to the hype and makes key plays in the clutch to secure a big victory on the road.

Final Prediction: Clemson Tigers: 30, Louisville Cardinals: 27
