SEC power rankings, Week 3: Georgia wins in South Bend
By John Buhler
It’s only been two weeks, but the South Carolina Gamecocks have added two impressive wins to their résumé. Beating the North Carolina State Wolfpack in Charlotte Week 1 let the college football world know that quarterback Jake Bentley is going to be something special for these guys.
South Carolina would go on the road and beat division rival Mizzou in the Battle of Columbia at Faurot Field. The Gamecocks have another divisional foe in Kentucky on Saturday night in their home opener. This might be the team that comes out of the East and plays in Atlanta. Hats off to the job Will Muschamp is doing to turn this program around.
Georgia is far from a complete team, but Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs might be the best in the SEC East this year. They will have to face South Carolina late in the year, but Georgia is coming off an impressive one-point win up in South Bend versus the No. 24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
To win at Notre Dame with a true freshman backup quarterback in Jake Fromm is huge for this team’s confidence. This defense in Athens is legit, with great playmakers at all levels. With in improving offense and navigable schedule, Georgia may be undefeated heading into Jacksonville against Florida. The only thing is Georgia right now wouldn’t beat Alabama or LSU on a neutral site.
