The Kansas City Chiefs played host to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and it was a solid home victory for the reigning AFC West champs.

In a game that was bend but don’t break for three quarters, the Kansas City Chiefs took control in the fourth, and came away with their second victory of the season. Tied at 13 heading into the final frame, the Chiefs got touchdowns from Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt, as they pulled away from the Philadelphia Eagles inside Arrowhead Stadium. For the Chiefs, they showed why they are considered one of the best teams in the AFC on Sunday.

When all was said and done, the Chiefs came away with a 27-20 home victory against the Eagles, cementing their spot as a true playoff contender. Quarterback Alex Smith played at a high level for the second week in a row, showing a propensity for throwing downfield. If Hunt continues to run like he has through the first two weeks, this is going to be a very hard team to beat.

Last week, the Chiefs saw their star safety, Eric Berry go down for the season with an injury. The rest of the secondary picked up the slack in this one, as they did not allow the big play to hurt them against a very aggressive Eagles offense. Philadelphia picked up yards in spurts, but this defense definitely came to play in Week 2.

Tight end Travis Kelce might have had the play of the day, as his fourth quarter touchdown broke the 13-13 tie. He took a shovel pass from Smith and charged up the middle, leaping over defenders and into the end zone. Philadelphia made it a game late, even getting a hail mary try after a successful onside kick, but the Chiefs finished them off.

It was a true team effort from the Chiefs on Sunday, and with division rival Los Angeles on deck, they should continue to roll early in the season.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs

The rookie running back showed that last week’s effort against the New England Patriots was no fluke, as he once again found the end zone multiple times. Hunt was held in check in the first half, but exploded with a 53-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. The back also scored a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory for Kansas City.

2. Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs

Maybe it is the fact that his career in Kansas City is being written as dead at the end of this season, but Alex Smith is playing on another level in 2017. The veteran quarterback continues to take shots down field, and is giving the Chiefs a wrinkle in their offense they have not had in a while. He was the better quarterback on the field on Sunday, and may be one of the best in the AFC.

3. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles

The second-year signal-caller had to deal with a tough Chiefs defense all game long, but he really earned my respect in this one. He continued to hang tough in the pocket, taking shots down field. He also was a victim of some bad drops, but the future is definitely bright in Philadelphia with Wentz under center.

Betting Odds

The Chiefs were a solid home favorite in this one, coming in giving the Eagles six points. They were able to cover that easily, thanks to their domination in the fourth quarter. The over/under was set at 47, which proved to be the exact number of points scored in this one. All odds can be found at SportsBook Review throughout the week.
