The Redskins bounced back well against the Rams on the road on Sunday afternoon. Check out some of the highlights from the close game.

The Los Angeles Rams looked like they could start the year 2-0 with a relatively easy matchup against the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon at home, but the Redskins were out to play spoiler after a rough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

While the game was close until the final few minutes, a Kirk Cousins touchdown pass to Ryan Grant with about two minutes left in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in the game, and the Redskins pulled out a 27-20 win on the road to gain some momentum back on the year.

The Redskins had some impressive work in the passing game, but it was a big performance from Chris Thompson on the ground that really did the trick for the team. He was a highlight machine in the game, and you can check out some of the action from the game below.

Three Stars

1. Chris Thompson

Like I mentioned before, Thompson had some big plays for the Redskins in the win, and even contributed two touchdowns to the effort on the ground to help keep the game close before the passing game sealed the deal late. The Redskins utilized three running backs in the attack, and Thompson had only three carries, but went for 77 yards and two touchdowns with them, including a 61-yard run to the house.

2. Kirk Cousins

While Thompson was killing it on the ground for the Redskins, Cousins held down the aerial support, and contributed the game-winning touchdown to Grant offensively to give the Redskins the lead late. He played well to help get the team back on track after starting 0-1 on the year, and the NFC East is a wide-open division after Week 2 of the season.

3. Todd Gurley

Unfortunately for Gurley, he can’t do it all for the Rams, but he certainly tries his best to. The Rams running back contributed 88 yards on 16 carries for the team, along with three catches for 48 yards to help his guys out offensively, and even scored a touchdown both on the ground and through the air to try and push his team to the win. In the end, it just wasn’t enough for the Rams to pull out the victory.

Odds

The Rams were favored -2.5, according to SportsBook Review, and they obviously didn’t live up to the hype on Sunday afternoon as they lost the game at home.

Next Week

The Redskins will head back home for Week 3 to play a tough Oakland Raiders squad next week, while the Rams will be featured in an NFC West matchup on Thursday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers on the road.
