5 NFL coaches pouring stiff drinks after Week 2
By Josh Hill
There was a time in John Fox’s career when he took the Jake Delhomme-led Carolina Panthers to within striking distance of a Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots. There was also a time when he asked if simply winning the AFC West was good enough.
Guess which version of Fox stalks the Chicago sidelines?
The Bears were stomped to such a severe degree on Sunday by the Buccaneers that it’s once again time to be when — not if — Fox will be canned. His commitment to the job has been questioned and those doubts are coming up once again in his steadfastness in wanting to start Mike Glennon over Mitchell Trubisky in what will be a lost season no matter what.
Fox is actually making the right decision in shielding Trubisky from the hell-fire that awaits him as a starter, but that’s not enough to save his job. It was reported that the trade the Bears made to move up and draft Trubisky was made without the knowledge or approval of Fox which means the front office is thinking about a future where his word doesn’t matter. That’s a future where a different head coach is calling the plays, and as the Bears continue to look worse and worse, we get closer and closer to the end of the John Fox era in Chicago.
