12. Mike Trout

The Los Angeles Angels need some help if they are going to make it back to the postseason for the first time since 2014 where they were swept out in the ALDS by the Kansas City Royals. Those are still the only three games MVP Mike Trout has played in the postseason in his stellar career. MLB fans, especially those on the East Coast, would certainly like to see Trout in October more often.

In his single trip to the playoffs, Trout went only 1-for-12 with three walks. He is long overdue for a signature moment in the month of October. It is unfortunate that the Angels have not been able to surround their franchise player with better talent. In a better situation, Trout may have already been to the World Series multiple times.

The Angels are in an all-out fight with the Minnesota Twins to sneak into the playoffs as the second Wild Card. The front office was aggressive in going out and getting Justin Upton and Brandon Phillips, but their impact to date has been minimal. It’s still on Trout to get this team to the playoffs, same as ever.

Trout is MLB’s best player, and the league and its fans need to see him in the playoffs more often. Even with his thumb injury, he is still a leading candidate for his third MVP award.
