ACC: Clemson is still the class of the conference

Saturday night was supposed to be the night for the Louisville Cardinals. They were at home inside Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, ready to exact their revenge on the Clemson Tigers for that close loss in Death Valley last season led by the reigning Heisman winner who put on some absolute shows in the first two games of the season to remind vehemently remind everyone why he is considered the best player in the nation. It was supposed to be, in some respects, the coming out party for Jackson and the Cardinals as the new favorite in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Yeah, well, what happened on Saturday night in Louisville was that everyone was slapped in the face with a nice dose of reality — that reality being that Clemson is still the class of the ACC and the defending national champs are still one of the top teams the country has to offer.

I’m very certain that to many casual college football fans out there, the loss of Deshaun Watson spelled the end of Clemson as a dominant program in the nation; they would simply return to being known as a good ACC program while Florida State took the reins of the conference right back.

That’s definitely not the case. This team boasts one of the best defenses in the country, especially up front. And as for the perceived problem regarding the lack of Watson on the roster … well, Kelly Bryant has proven more than capable of getting things done on his own, and he’s own going to progressively improve as the season moves along.

Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers will not relent in the foreseeable future as a national power and perennial national title contender.
