Best NFL games of Week 3: Marcus Mariota, Russell Wilson meet in Nashville showdown
By Joe Schiller
3. New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
This NFC East matchup holds early implications this season, which makes it one of the best games of the week. Both the Giants and Eagles come off a Week 2 loss, but Sunday is a must-win for a Giants team that’s looked dreadful to start the season.
Since 2007, only 9 percent of teams that started off the regular season 0-2 made the playoffs. The Giants are against the odds and from what we’ve seen far this season, there’s no reason to indicate that they’ll turn things around. Even with how good he defense is playing, the offense cannot put points up on the board. Odell Beckham still isn’t fully healthy and there’s been no production from Brandon Marshall or any of the other Giants receivers. The offense line cannot protect Eli Manning up front and that’s not a problem that’s going to change anytime soon.
The Eagles are just the better team coming into this game. They lack a true running game, but Carson Wentz is coming into his own in Frank Reich’s offense. He’s got some great offensive weapons with Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith and Zach Ertz catching the ball.
But as we know, these NFC East matchups always seem to play close. Both teams know each other very well and neither can afford a loss this early in the season.
I don’t think the Giants are as bad as their record shows, but they’ve still got plenty of problems. The Eagles will pull out the win at home and leave the Giants in panic mode at 0-3.
