Best NFL games of Week 3: Marcus Mariota, Russell Wilson meet in Nashville showdown
By Joe Schiller
2. Seattle Seahawks at Tennessee Titans
One of the top NFC teams travel across country to take on an up and coming AFC contender. We’ve got two dual threat quarterbacks going up against each? Give me this all day. The Titans-Seahawks game will make for best afternoon games on Sunday.
The Seahawks are 1-1, but come off an embarrassing 12-9 win over the 49ers at home. Their defense is as good as advertised, but there are some major problems on the offensive side of the ball. Russell Wilson has to run for his life behind an offensive line that can’t seem block anyone up front. Like we’ve seen, you can’t win games. The better offenses of the NFL will find a way to score points and the Titans are considered in that category.
Marcus Mariota is at the center of one of the most balanced offenses that you’ll see this season. They’ve got a one-two punch on the ground with DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry, as well as plenty of weapons at receiver. They’ll be up to the test against the best defense in the NFL.
The key to this game comes down to the ability of the Seahawks defense to stop Marcus Mariota. The Seahawks have gone up against Aaron Rodgers and Brian Hoyer, two prototypical pocket passers in the first two weeks of the season, but Mariota is a different story. He’s accurate in the pocket, but also can be you on the run. The Titans will look to get him moving around early to keep the Seahawks defense on their toes.
In the past, the Seahawks would be an easy pick, but not anymore. The Titans are for real this season and I’ll give them the advantage playing at home.
