SEC power rankings, Week 4: It’s all about the Bulldogs, Tigers not so much
By John Buhler
Like the Ole Miss Rebels, what are the Auburn Tigers? For whatever reason, they get the benefit of the doubt, probably because that Kevin Steele defense is rock solid. However, how is this team going to fair in SEC play? They’ll beat awful Missouri in Week 4, but after that…
Gus Malzahn has seen a former No. 1 recruit transfer and his former starting quarterback Sean White be dismissed from school in the same week. New starting quarterback Jarrett Stidham is not mobile enough to play Malzahn’s hurry-up-and-run down on The Plains. Auburn is a bowl team, but probably not the 15th best team in the country.
When the Florida Gators’ backs are against the wall, Jim McElwain finds a way to get a win when his team needs it the most. It was an ugly football game, but that Feleipe Franks Hail May was something else to lead Florida to victory over the SEC East rival Tennessee Volunteers.
Was there holding on the play? Probably, but Florida has the defense to win its third SEC East in a row if they can knock off Georgia in Jacksonville. Franks is showing promise at quarterback. There is a great chance we haven’t seen Florida play its best ball of the season. They could very emerge as the second best team in the SEC at season’s end.
