Georgia Bulldogs (3-0)

Last week: Win vs. Samford, 42-14
Last rank: 3rd

At 3-0, the Georgia Bulldogs look to be the top dawgs in the SEC East. The defense is legit for Kirby Smart’s program. Georgia has the running game to win at all points of the season. Though two of their wins came against Appalachian State and Samford, they did go on the road and beat Notre Dame with a backup quarterback in Jake Fromm.

Georgia is the No. 11 team in the country, but that doesn’t mean anything if they don’t beat the No. 17 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday night. The winner of that high-profile SEC night game will emerge as the second-best team in the SEC without question heading into Week 5.

Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0)

Last week: Win vs. Colorado State, 41-23
Last rank: 1st

Until they lose, it’s Alabama and everybody else in the SEC. The Crimson Tide are one of four or five teams in the Power 5 than can feel pretty good about its College Football Playoff aspirations in mid-September. There is still plenty of work to be done, but the gap between No. 1 and No. 2 in the SEC is massive.

Alabama will win on Saturday night, but will have to deal with the tough Vanderbilt Commodores defense up in Nashville. Nick Saban will have his guys prepared for this one. Vanderbilt will put up a fight thought, but Alabama should roll to 4-0 easily.
