Loser: Roy Hodgson

Things aren’t getting better for Crystal Palace, and there’s little hope in sight for improvement in the near future. It seems harsh to criticize the team after playing City, who look unbeatable at the moment, but they’re still an incoherent mess. Roy Hodgson hasn’t made any noticeable changes to the side after Frank de Boer’s departure. There doesn’t seem to be a plan. And it’s going to get worse, somehow, before it gets better.

Palace already set Premier League records in “being awful to start a season” last week, and broke them again with another goalless loss this week.

Their futility grows outside of just the Premier League. We’re witnessing history that may never be repeated, especially given the fact Palace’s next two matches are against Manchester United and Chelsea.

It’s fascinating, if you’re not a fan of the team of course, to watch this drought go on. At some point, these being professional soccer players, someone will luck their way into a goal. It’s almost harder to not score a goal in six games than it is to score one.

Palace brought Hodgson in to shore up the squad and provide a clear understanding of how his team will set up. Through the first two matches in his tenure, it doesn’t look like much has changed. Their back line is disorganized and the players are disheveled. And it might get far worse in the next few games before Hodgson can even make tangible changes. If you have a Palace fan in your life, give them a big hug. They’re going to need it.
