NC State Wolfpack 3-1

Last week: Won 27-21 over Florida State
Last rank: 8

In the biggest jump in this week’s power rankings, the NC State Wolfpack makes a big splash into the top five on the list after a huge win over Florida State on Saturday.

It’s unclear whether or not Florida State will be a big threat throughout the rest of the season, but the Wolfpack benefited from being the first team to play the Seminoles since they lost to Alabama in Week 1. NC State looked strong, and they look like one of the top teams in the conference, but that embarrassing digit in their loss column is going to loom large as far as them making a mark in the ACC.

Miami Hurricanes 2-0

Last week: Won 52-30 over Toledo
Last rank: 2

This was a tough decision to make, but a big reason Miami didn’t move to the third spot earlier in the season is because they just played their second game of the season on Saturday. Now, they’ll need to show some dominance to get back up.

The Hurricanes took a little while to get going against Toledo in their first action back on the field in weeks, and couldn’t put them away in a fashion that many expected them to. They could jump right back to the second spot on the list depending on how the Clemson-Virginia Tech battle goes on Saturday, but, for now, they falter a little bit in the rankings.
