2. Wendell Smallwood

I’ve been banging on about Wendell Smallwood since before the season even got started, and this week he finally had his chance to show what he could do – and he delivered. Smallwood had 12 carries for 71 yards, which was a 5.9 yards per carry average, and looked like a powerful, fast and confident runner. Although he didn’t find the end zone and LeGarrette Blount stole the score and a number of touches (12-67-1), Smallwood’s involvement was clear and we can expect much more.

On Monday, the devastating news was broken that veteran running back Darren Sproles tore his ACL and broke his arm on the same play against the Giants on Sunday. This means there will be plenty of more action for Smallwood moving forward and relief of the slower, more brutish runner Blount.

As the Eagles running again finally found life, Smallwood is the back you want to own and if you can start to find the end zone will be a very solid asset moving forward. The Eagles face the Chargers, Cardinals and Panthers in upcoming games and will need to establish their running game to improve on a 2-1 start.
