Ole Miss Rebels (2-1)

Last week: Idle
Last rank: 13th

Ole Miss didn’t’ play last week. The Rebels are coming off their bye after losing on the road in a weird game with the California Golden Bears. There will not be a bowl game in Ole Miss’ future, but they have the on-field talent to win a few games in SEC play if the team is up for it.

The question remains how much emotional firepower the Rebels will have in a lost season. Interim head coach Matt Luke may be with his guys emotionally, but is he ready to hang with the SEC head coaches on Saturdays? First up, Alabama. Good luck with that.

Tennessee Volunteers (3-1)

Last week: Win vs. UMass, 17-13
Last rank: 10th

Tennessee may be 3-1, but panic is in the air in Knoxville. The media and the fan base is starting to turn on head coach Butch Jones. There’s not enough redundant clichés in the world for him to magically make the Tennessee fan base feel better about how underwhelming his team has been.

Not using running back John Kelly on every other down offensively doesn’t make any sense. Tennessee has no confidence at quarterback. The Vols barely beat Georgia Tech and UMass and lost to Florida on a terrible attempt at defending a Hail Mary. Tennessee is still a bowl team, but not a good one.
