Vanderbilt Commodores (3-1)

Last week: Loss vs. No. 1 Alabama, 59-0
Last rank: 7th

Well, so much for the Vanderbilt Commodores hype train. The ‘Dores got their doors blown off in an embarrassing shutout rout at home to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 59-0. To be fair, that’s No. 1 Alabama we’re talking about and they’re Vanderbilt.

However, the Commodores’ offense showed that it will evaporate in a hurry against a great defense. Keep in mind that Vanderbilt still has Florida and Georgia coming up on the schedule. Derek Mason will get his team to a bowl, but that’s not the start to SEC play he could have hoped for, at all.

South Carolina Gamecocks (3-1)

Last week: Win vs. Louisiana Tech, 17-16
Last rank: 11th

It’s hard to figure out what exactly the South Carolina Gamecocks are. They beat North Carolina State on a neutral site in Week 1. South Carolina would lose its best offensive playmaker in Deebo Samuel and lose to Kentucky. They would barely hang on to beat Louisiana Tech in Week 4.

South Carolina is a bowl team that has a good quarterback and plays defense. However, they are only a mid-level team in the SEC East. With the SEC being deeper in the SEC West, that puts the Gamecocks as a slightly below par team in the conference hierarchy.
