2018 NFL Mock Draft: Surprising records lead to a surprising order
By Brad Weiss
The Chicago Bears traded up during the 2017 NFL Draft to take University of North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. In Week 5, we will get our first look at him in a regular season game, as head coach John Fox will send Mike Glennon to the bench. Trubisky did not have a ton of starts during his time with the Tar Heels but looked very good during the preseason.
In the first round next April, the Bears should look to bring in a playmaker on the other side of the ball. Derwin James from Florida State may be the best defensive back in the country, though he is certainly the best safety. He is coming back from a bad injury last season and has had his bad moments this season for the Seminoles, but he is going to be a dynamic player at the next level.
James can play safety, or possibly even cornerback at the next level and the Bears need help on that side of the ball. The NFC North has a guy named Aaron Rodgers in it, so if you cannot stop the pass, you are going to struggle. Chicago has had some injuries this season, and will likely finish with an even higher pick than No. 7, so expect them to get their man in the draft, much like they did last April.
