Colorado Buffaloes (3-2)

Last week: L 27-23 at UCLA
Last rank: 5

The Colorado Buffaloes have now lost two straight, after falling to the UCLA Bruins this past weekend. Quarterback Steven Montez tried to do it all with his arm, and his feet, as he led the team in both rushing and passing in the game. Montez threw for 243 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 108 yards, but it was not enough against a fired up UCLA defense.

Phillip Lindsay continued his stellar season against the Bruins, scoring a touchdown on the ground, and through the air. Lindsay finished the game with 83 yards on 19 carries while catching four balls for 47 yards. The game came down to a Hail Mary, but in the end, the Buffaloes fell just a few points short of the Bruins.

The biggest issue for the Buffaloes was their play on third down, where they connected on only four of 16 tries. The defense was led by senior defensive back Ryan Moeller, who led the team with nine tackles. Colorado has a tough schedule ahead of them, as they still have to play Washington State, Utah, and USC, so defending their Pac-12 South title is certainly going to be a tough thing to do.

UCLA Bruins (3-2)

Last week: W 27-23 vs. Colorado
Last rank: 10

It has been an up and down season for the UCLA Bruins in 2017, as they look so good one week, and then lay an egg the next. This past weekend, the Bruins took care of their business against Colorado, beating one of the better defensive units in the Pac-12. They are back on the winning track, and head into their bye week on a high.

Quarterback Josh Rosen put up big numbers once again against the Buffaloes, though he battled some mistakes throughout. He has struggled with turning the ball over this season but has been very productive without a true running game. Soso Jamabo played decently at running back for the second straight week, rushing for 70 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown.

Jordan Lasley was Rosen’s main target against Colorado, catching seven balls for 146 yards through the air. Austin Roberts caught a touchdown, as the Bruins won the battle between a stellar defense and electric offense. UCLA’s defense was led by standout Kenny Young, who racked up 12 tackles in the game. The win broke a two-game losing streak, and the Bruins finally showed they can do something against the run.
