No. 20: NC State Wolfpack (5-1)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 24

Don’t turn ya back on the Wolfpack, college football fans. After another big-time conference victory against Louisville on Thursday night, NC State looks like a legitimate ACC title contender. The ‘Pack can’t afford any slip-ups next week in a tricky game against Pitt and in three weeks time, they’ll be heading to South Bend to face the Irish.

No. 19: Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish (5-1)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 21

Through six weeks, Notre Dame has forced 14 turnovers and are a couple plays away (give or take) against a strong Georgia bunch from being 6-0 this season. The 4-8 jokes are officially dead with a 33-10 win against North Carolina on Saturday and the Irish stroll into the bye week at 5-1 with some tough games ahead and enough time to get healthy for the homestretch this year.

No. 18: San Diego State Aztecs (6-0)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 19

Rashaad Penny and the Aztecs had some minor issues with UNLV on Saturday night in the early going, but San Diego State pulled away from the Rebels and stayed unbeaten. The Aztecs host Boise State next Friday night in what could be a sneaky good game next weekend and what could be a bit of a trap game.

No. 17: South Florida Bulls (6-0)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 18

The Bulls had the weekend off but still remain the option for the Group of Five to crash the College Football Playoff. There are still more questions than answers with Charlie Strong’s bunch, but wins do all the talking in this sport and the Bulls continue to do just that.

No. 16: Virginia Tech Hokies (5-1)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 16

When you look at the rest of the schedule for Virginia Tech, it’s not crazy to think that the Fighting Frank Beamers could finish the regular season at 11-1. There’s the big showdown coming with Miami down on South Beach on Nov. 4, but Josh Jackson and the Hokies are back on track after the Clemson loss with a 23-10 victory over Boston College on Saturday.
