College Football Rankings 2017: Projected Top 25 after Week 6
No. 15: Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-1)
Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 15
The Pokes were off this week after surviving Texas Tech on the road last Saturday night, They won’t see another ranked team until Oct. 28 when the Cowboys head for Morgantown to face West Virginia (and the Mountaineers likely won’t be ranked this week). There’s still a glimmer of hope for OSU.
No. 14: Michigan Wolverines (4-1)
Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 7
Michigan, what happened? Look, I know a monsoon hit Ann Arbor on Saturday night in your annual rivalry game against Michigan State, but that doesn’t mean throw the football all over the yard. Jim Harbaugh looked like Brian Kelly from Notre Dame’s loss to NC State in a hurricane last season in Raleigh. Run the dang ball, Jim. Also, don’t turn the ball over, Wolverines.
No. 13: USC Trojans (5-1)
Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 14
The Trojans had an extra day to prep for Oregon State after being “upset” against Washington State last Friday night in Pullman and the Trojans got back to their winning ways with a 38-10 victory over the Beavers. USC faces some issues in the form of not being able to play Washington this season to gain some traction towards the playoff again, so winning out is really the only option for the Trojans to even have a chance.
No. 12: Miami (FL) Hurricanes (4-0)
Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 12
Man, it’s good for college football when Miami is good and it’s great for college football when the Miami-Florida State rivalry game is an instant classic. The Hurricanes remained undefeated with a 24-20 win over their in-state rivals on Saturday. We didn’t get a last-second field goal try from Florida State and we didn’t need it.
No. 11: Auburn Tigers (5-1)
Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 12
It’s a good thing for Auburn that their lone loss this season is still to the second-best team in America. Why? Because over the next four weeks — which includes a bye week on Oct. 28 — the Tigers will hit the road for games against LSU, Arkansas and Texas A&M. It’s gut-check time for Auburn and we’re going to find just how good this team is.
