No. 10: Washington State Cougars (6-0)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 11

Autzen Stadium wasn’t Woodstock like the city of Pullman was last week after Washington State’s victory over a top-5 USC bunch at the time, but it was Cougar Country as Ol’ Crimson and the gang rolled to a 23-point victory over Oregon on the road to improve to 6-0. As each week passes, the Apple Cup in late November continues to get bigger and bigger.

No. 9: Ohio State Buckeyes (5-1)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 10

Oklahoma losing to Iowa State at home was probably the worst thing that could’ve have happened to Ohio State outside of losing themselves, but the Buckeyes did hang 62 on Maryland in a comfortable win at home. J.T. Barrett threw for 261 yards and three scores as the Bucks moved to 5-1 on the season with a trip to Lincoln to face Nebraska next week.

No. 8: Oklahoma Sooners (4-1)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 3

So, the Red River Rivalry lost a tiny bit of intrigue it had going into next weekend in Dallas, but it still has plenty. The Sooners shockingly lost at home on Saturday to Iowa State, ending their 14-game winning streak dating back to last season. It’s not the end of the playoff hopes for Oklahoma, but a loss to Texas in one of the nation’s biggest rivalry games next week could dash all hopes they had and barely have.

No. 7: Wisconsin Badgers (5-0)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 9

It took some of that usual Big Ten grit and grind for the Badgers to leave Lincoln with a win, but Wisconsin rode Jonathan Taylor (not Thomas) for 249 yards and two scores in their 38-17 win over Nebraska on Saturday night. Michigan’s loss to Sparty may not help Wisconsin in the Big Ten standings all that much being that they’re in different divisions, but it’ll help in the Top 25 projections.

No. 6: TCU Horned Frogs (5-0)

Ranking coming into Week 6: No. 8

If you missed the game between West Virginia and TCU in Fort Worth on Saturday afternoon, you missed what was probably the best game of the day not named Western Michigan-Buffalo. If you don’t know why that game was great, you need to go catch some highlights right after you read about how good Kenny Hill and the Horned Frogs have been this season. They got past the Mountaineers after last year’s humiliating loss in Morgantown. Circle Nov. 11 against Oklahoma in Norman on your calendars, TCU fans.
