Adam Gase

Head Coach, Miami Dolphins

Gase might not be on the hot seat in the traditional sense, but it might time to start wondering. The biggest thing killing him is the connection to Jay Cutler, which is historically never the side you want to plant your flag on.

Marc Trestman chose Jay Cutler over Josh McCown and lost his job. Mike Shanahan was instrumental in drafting Cutler and it would end up being his last gasp in Denver after a historic run. Cutler is never a guy who brings good things, and Gase is learning that the hard way.

If (and probably when) Cutler flames out, it’s going to be a black mark on Gase’s record. It shouldn’t be something that brings about his firing, but it’s going to ignite a conversation about a quarterback guru head coach not being able to coach his quarterback. Beyond Cutler, this Dolphins team can’t install a lot of confidence in anyone no matter who is playing quarterback. Ryan Tannehill wasn’t the answer and this might be a situation where the next guy needs to be sought out. It’s not the fault of the head coach that his quarterback tore his ACL, but we’ve seen with Chuck Pagano what a perpetually injured star quarterback can do to one’s job security.

Gase’s seat is getting warm thanks to Cutler, and the overall problems the Dolphins have will continue to turn up the heat if Gase can’t figure it out.
