NFL Hot Seat: 5 coaches that must win Week 5
By Josh Hill
It wouldn’t be the first time a head coach was fired after just one year, and Anthony Lynn isn’t doing much to quiet complaints about his performance. It’s not that the Chargers are losing, it’s how they are losing.
A common defense of the Chargers is that they could easily be 2-2 if a kicker doesn’t miss two game-winners to start the year. He did, though, and part of that was Lynn not knowing what he was doing. Rushing his kicker onto the field for a game-winner doesn’t help, nor does rushing him to make a kick that he has established is out of his range. That’s partly on the kicker, but it’s mostly on Lynn for not making the right call or doing what he can to get his team in the best position to win.
The Chargers other two losses were embarrassments, as they were never in a position to beat the Chiefs or Eagles. A loss against the Giants — a team desperate for its own first win — could be another nail in the coffin. Los Angeles is in trouble, and if the front office decides to blow things up and rebuild, Lynn is going to be one of the easiest firings that has to be made.
