Hue Jackson

Head Coach, Cleveland Browns

A lot needed to happen before Hue Jackson was realistically on the hot seat — and it’s all happening. The last thing the Browns needed to do was jump the gun on firing Jackson if things started slowly this season. If there’s one thing Cleveland is known to do, it’s pulling the rug out from under a coach who is underperforming. The fear was this would happen to Jackson, despite being the best-qualified person to lead the team into the 2017 season.

But something has to give. The Browns are staring down at least 0-10 right now, and that’s starting to fall squarely on Jackson. After playing the Steelers very close in the first week, the Browns have taken steps backward. DeShone Kizer looks like a rookie in all the worst ways and the offense is putrid at best. That’s the side of the ball Jackson is supposed to be a guru, and he’s looked like anything but this season.

Jackson is still the best coach for the Browns — right now — but something has to change. Firing him is a premature move that might set the team back, but if this losing continues then he’s only giving Jimmy Haslam more incentive to fire him and seek out a bigger head coaching name who could be attracted by the young talent in Cleveland.
