NFL Draft 2018: Updated ranking of the top 32 draft prospects entering Week 7
The LSU Tigers had that bounce back week with the win over Florida and Derrius Guice was back on the field. Hampered by a nagging injury, it was good to see Guice back on the field and getting carries.
While his production doesn’t jump off the page with only 50 yards on 17 carries, it is a plus he took on the workload. It was one of those days of tough sledding and sometimes a running back has to grind out the tough yards in a win.
In a way, winning a less than pretty game had a bit of charm to it for LSU. They needed that gritty win after losing to Troy and knocking off Florida should give them something to build off of the rest of the way.
Much like how 50 yards and only a 2.9 yards per carry average should give Guice something to build on next. It won’t help his draft stock if he keeps posting numbers like this, but getting carries under his belt and getting healthy was a must.
After a strong season in 2016 put Tarvarus McFadden near the top of most rankings, the cornerback hasn’t had a strong 2017. Of course, it’s been a strange season from postponed games and an unusual break in action early.
Therefore, McFadden and the entire Florida State team have had to adjust. Still, it hasn’t been the season people have expected from him and a strange night of minus four yards on a punt return really capped it off on Saturday.
While Florida State lost to Miami, it’s hard to put much weight into this year for Florida State because of everything going south Week 1 with the injury to Deondre Francois. On the defensive side of the ball, there has been plenty to like.
However, McFadden hasn’t had that game yet that wows everyone and puts himself back near the top of the defensive back rankings. His size and talent are going to keep him high but he needs a strong performance or two soon.
