Atlanta Braves: Make Dayton Moore the GM

The John Coppolella Era in Atlanta went up in flames last week when it became known that he was under investigation by the league regarding improper dealings with international free amateurs and potential draft picks. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports also reported that Coppolella brazenly tampered with pending free agents and was openly disliked by his fellow MLB front office execs.

"What’s increasingly evident, according to multiple Braves employees and others familiar with the investigation, is the chaos sowed during Coppolella’s tenure burbled with palace intrigue and leaves behind an organization in flux, even as it possesses arguably the best minor league system in the game."

This is not a good time for the Braves to be in trouble at the top of the organization. Their plan to strip the roster down to the studs and rebuild the farm system is nearing completion. Coppolella did assemble one of the best groups of prospects in the league, and results were starting to be seen at the MLB level.

The Braves must replace Coppolella with a more experienced hire who can take them through the next phase of their rebuild. Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore is the perfect choice. His career began as a scout with the Braves back in 1994, and he was their assistant GM for a year before taking his current job in 2006. The rumor mill is already running at full speed speculating on a reunion between Moore and the Braves, and he would be the perfect candidate, having overseen the Royals rebuild from downtrodden losers to World Series champs.
