The New Orleans Saints will host the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon in Week 6. Here is a game preview, the betting odds and a final score prediction.

Here’s to another exciting week in the NFL! It’s already Week 6 and we’ve got a terrific game in the NFC on tap for your enjoyment in the early afternoon. That game will be between the Detroit Lions (3-2) and the New Orleans Saints (2-2).

Kickoff from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans will be at 1:00 p.m ET on Oct. 15. Dan Hellie and Chris Spielman will be in the booth to call the football game for FOX.

The Lions are 3-2 on the year and very much in the mix for a playoff spot in the NFC this year. They have wins over the Arizona Cardinals, the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings. Detroit does have a pair of losses on the season to the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers, both of which came at home at Ford Field.

New Orleans is 2-2 on the year and is coming off its bye. The Saints dropped their first two games of the year of the Vikings and the New England Patriots. They have since followed it up with wins over the Panthers in Charlotte and the Miami Dolphins in London.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: New Orleans -4.5
Moneylines: New Orleans -225, Detroit +185
Over/Under: 50

According to SportsBook Review, the Saints will be laying 4.5 points at home to the visiting Lions. The associated moneylines for this game are New Orleans -225 and Detroit +185. This game’s over/under comes in at a combined 50 points.

Even though this game features two dome teams that can put up points on turf, let’s go with the slight under in this one. This is because Lions starting quarterback Matthew Stafford is a bit banged up after Week 5’s loss at home to the Panthers. If he was at 100 percent, this one will definitely go over the 50-point threshold.

We have to give the edge to the Saints in this one for three reasons. The first is that they are healthier than the Lions at this time. Coming off a bye is huge for New Orleans. The second is that this is a home game for the Saints. They play better at home like most teams. Finally, the third point is that the Saints are feeling good riding a two-game winning streak.

Add in that the Saints have shipped former running back Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals and this team could be even more focused. Look for the Saints to win and cover, but it will be fewer points than we were expecting. Not quite the shootout we anticipated, but a good game nonetheless.

Prediction: Saints 27, Lions 21
