Joel Embiid will begin his season with a minutes restriction and he’s not happy about it.

Joel Embiid has been plagued with questions regarding his health and minutes all offseason. And frankly, he’s growing quite tired of it. In addition, apparently head coach Brett Brown forgot to tell Embiid about his plan for the young star. When asked about his minutes restriction on Tuesday, Embiid had some choice words regarding the matter.

During his one season in the league thus far, the 23-year-old played just 25.4 minutes per game. Given he only played 31 games, the limited minutes are a legitimate concern. His exemplary performance when he is on the court leaves Sixers fans wondering how efficient he could be if given more playing time. And who knows, maybe he would’ve if he hadn’t have suffered a season-ending injury.

Embiid averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game during his time on the court last season. The 7-foot center took the league by storm with his performance on the court and even made the Sixers look somewhat decent, which wasn’t easy last season. However, injuries continued to take a toll on him. Embiid was signed to a new contract extension this fall but it includes clauses the protect the Sixers if Embiid continues to struggle with health.

Along with being one of the league’s most outspoken stars, Embiid is also one of the brightest young talents. His somewhat brash attitude towards his competitors makes for the perfect good guy in Philadelphia. Embiid’s young spirit and assertive attitude, combined with his talent, embodies everything in which the Sixers aspire to be. Philadelphia’s young core, led by Embiid, travels to the nation’s capital on Wednesday as they tip-off their season against a seasoned Washington Wizards squad. Expect Embiid to have somewhat restricted minutes early on. After all, what the coach says, goes.
