SEATTLE, WA – OCTOBER 01: Quarterback Russell Wilson /

Joe Montana Division

4. Russell Wilson (Prev: 5)

Wilson doesn’t have any semblance of an offensive line. he doesn’t have an All-Pro weapon and yet the Super Bowl champ has 1,222 yards and eight touchdowns in five contests. Without Wilson, one of the league’s best teams would be a disaster. Think about that.

3. Alex Smith (Prev: 4)

Smith had a tough game against the Steelers, missing multiple throws that could have turned a loss into a win. So why so high? Smith has been the league’s MVP to this point, throwing for 1,637 yards with 12 touchdowns against zero interceptions. He’s averaging a league-best .853 yards per attempt and has completed 72.9 percent of his throws, another league-best. One game does not a season make.

2. Drew Brees (Prev: 3)

Res hasn’t been throwing for the crazy yardage we’ve seen in the past, but he’s doing everything splendidly. The future Hall of Famer has thrown for 1,321 yards with 10 touchdowns while completing 69 percent of his throws. With those numbers, the Saints are in the NFC South mix, and Brees is a huge, if surprising understated reason why.

1. Tom Brady (Prev: 1)

With Aaron Rodgers going down with a broken collarbone, there is really no doubt who deserves this spot. Brady hasn’t been great over the past two weeks, but he still leads the NFL with 1,959 yards and checks in second with 13 touchdown passes. Without him, the Patriots would be reduced to rubble.
