2018 NFL Mock Draft: 49ers get their franchise quarterback
By Brad Weiss
What a disappointing season it has been for the Oakland Raiders this season. Coming into the year, everybody expected the Raiders to at least be a Wildcard team in 2017, but they have fallen way short of expectations. Heading into their Week 7 matchup on Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders are in danger of losing their fifth straight game, which would be more losses than they had the entire season in 2016.
Sure, Derek Carr has been hurt, and the offense has sputtered, but the defense has not been any better. This team has continuously gone out and drafted secondary help in the first round, and it has not yielded the kind of results you would expect. Their 2017 first rounder, cornerback Gareon Conley, has yet to step on the field, and you have to be worried about his health going forward.
It is very much a possibility that this team will be drafting very early in round one in 2018, and with that pick, they should look to go cornerback again. Minkah Fitzpatrick is a much better cornerback prospect than Conley was, and would instantly become the top corner on this roster. He comes with a winning pedigree playing at Alabama and would give the Silver and Black two solid, young cornerbacks to build this secondary around for the next 5-10 years.
