NFL Week 7 Viewing Guide: Drop everything to watch these games

4. New York Jets at Miami Dolphins
I don’t think any of us expected the Dolphins and Jets to be in the position they’re in at this point in the season, but somehow here they are. Both sit just one game back of the Patriots in the AFC East and are right in the middle of the pack for a playoff spot. It’s a divisional matchup with early implications heading forward.
Let’s be honest, you aren’t tuning in to watch the arm talent of Josh McCown and Jay Cutler. Both are in their mid-to-late 30’s and past their best years. But what you are tuning in for is a fantastic matchup between two solid defensive units.
For you defense junkies, this is the game for you. I expect this to be a low-scoring affair and wouldn’t be surprised if neither team scored above 20 points. Both sides have defenses that are playing some great football right now. The Jets are young, but Todd Bowles has got his defense getting after it. The secondary has been the surprise strength this season with two rookies in Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye leading the way.
On the other side, the front-seven has been the focal point for the Dolphins defense. All-Pros Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh are at the forefront of a unit that’s third in the NFL giving up just over 80 rushing yards per game.
Do we expect either team to be in playoff contention come the end of the season? Probably not, but you can’t count them out yet. We’ve seen a lot weirder things so far this season.
