4. Jimbo Fisher – Florida State Seminoles

Jimbo Fisher, head coach of the Florida State Seminoles, has been a dominant force in the ACC ever since Jameis Winston showed up on campus. Since Winston has left, though, Fisher and company have struggled to maintain the success they rode when Winston ran the team. One of many ridiculous buyouts, Jimbo Fisher would be owed $39,312,500 if fired before December.

Again, here is a coach that has produced wins and titles, but long-term he hasn’t proven that he is worth the buyout. The only years Fisher seemed head-and-shoulders above other coaches was when Jameis Winston was running all over the field, finding Kelvin Benjamin in the end zone. As it turns out, the Seminoles don’t have as near a threatening team if they don’t have a Heisman winner at quarterback.

While the defense was strong in Jimbo’s first few years, recent recruiting seems to have slowed on the defensive side of the ball. Is Jimbo at fault for the lack of defensive players? Yes, but not entirely. Fisher does his part by snatching nearly any offensive high school star he wants. His assistants are strong, and Florida State’s prestige is enough to grab any player they want.

Fisher is ranked 6th nationally among coaching salaries, but he still isn’t worth his buyout. Nick Saban’s buyout is half what Fisher’s is, but Saban has proven time and time again that he is worth any amount of money. Florida State isn’t looking to make a coaching change, but if Fisher’s buyout gets lowered next year, and they still don’t produce — look out.
