11. New York Jets: Trade Morris Claiborne

An interesting proposition I know, but work with me here. The Jets signed Clairborne to a one-year contract before the start of the season. As much as the Jets are exceeding expectations right now, they still won’t be a playoff team come the end of the season. It’s still rebuilding time in New York and dealing Claiborne would be a smart move.

As we inch closer to the deadline, teams will be calling about potential trades for cornerbacks. It’s one of the highest regarded positions on the field and it never hurts to have more depth. Claiborne is still a talented player and could be a solid No. 2 corner on a contending team.

This is a time for the Jets to start thinking about the future, rather than the season at hand. Sure fans will want them to continue to compete, but the Jets still aren’t at the point where they can contend with the best of the AFC. After this season, starting quarterback Josh McCown will likely be gone and other veteran talents will start to be weeded out. Moving Claiborne for a mid to late-round conditional pick would be smart.

With rookies Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye as the young and exciting future of the Jets secondary, they won’t be too far off of contention even without Claiborne.
