NFL trade deadline: One move every team should make
By Joe Schiller
9. Philadelphia Eagles: Trade for Duane Brown
At 6-1, the Philadelphia Eagles are flying high as the best team in football right now, but not everything is fine and well. They lost two key players to devastating injuries. Linebacker Jordan Hicks suffered a ruptured Achilles and left tackle Jason Peters is out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL. It’s a huge loss for the Eagles offense as Carson Wentz is now missing protection on his blind side.
If the Eagles make a move before the trade deadline it’s got to be for an offensive tackle. Houston Texans left tackle Duane Brown has just returned from a holdout and is back with the team. There’s no guarantee Brown stays with the Texans, especially with the money he’s asking for, which gives the Eagles a chance to swoop in for a trade.
Trading for Brown means eating some of his $9.4 million salary this year, but the Eagles would have him for at least two more seasons. It immediately fixes a huge hole for the offensive line and Brown is put with a Super Bowl contending team. It’d be a win-win on both sides.
Even if it means giving up a mid-late round draft pick, the Eagles shouldn’t worry. With the youth and talent they’ve got, it’s going to be Super Bowl or bust in the next coming years.
