NFL trade deadline: One move every team should make
By Joe Schiller
8. Pittsburgh Steelers: Trade Martavis Bryant
It’s the hottest rumor out there ahead of the trade deadline. Off his year-long suspension, Martavis Bryant has not been involved in the Steelers offense as much as he and the rest of us expected. He’s sufficed for just 234 receiving yards through seven weeks and isn’t happy about it.
After reports of Bryant’s trade request earlier this season, it seems inevitable that a trade is going to happen. Bryant has argued with fans on social media, discredited fellow teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster and most recently called out of a team meeting on Monday because of sickness. And as much as head Mike Tomlin can deny any attempts to trade Bryant, you know the Steelers’ front office is exploring possible options; how couldn’t you at this point?
There are plenty of suitors if the Steelers try to trade Bryant. Along with offensive lineman, wide receivers are some of the most coveted players in the NFL right now. Pretty much every team is looking to bolster depth at wide receiver. Bryant is only 25-years old and has his best football ahead of him. He poses a huge risk with suspensions, but it’s a risk just about any team would take given Bryant’s talents.
At this point, a trade makes sense for both sides. Bryant is unhappy with the current situation and the Steelers just can’t keep him at this point. It’s a move the Steelers have to make whether they want to or not.
