No. 20: Memphis

Memphis remained hot in Week 9. A dominant win over Tulane should push them up multiple spots, as teams in the teens lost and will fall. The Tigers could win out, but in a weak conference, it might not mean much for their ranking.

No. 19: LSU

No game for LSU in Week 9. It gets to advance multiple spots after some shaky play near the bottom of the top 25. Next is Alabama, however, who can easily send the Tigers out of the rankings. No one has beaten the Crimson Tide since January’s National Championship Game, and there’s every reason to think this stays the same after Nov. 4.

No. 18: USC

As of this writing, USC’s Week 9 game against Arizona State isn’t over. However, with a four-score lead, it’s safe to say the Wildcats won’t come back. That means the Trojans move up multiple spots in the ranking, getting back into the top 20 after a loss to Notre Dame.

No. 17: Stanford

Since dropping games to USC and San Diego State in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively, the Cardinal have won five straight games. Attribute this to running back Bryce Love and his dominance. He looks like a Heisman Trophy candidate. As long as this insane levels of production continue and lead the team to victory, there will be a spot in the college football rankings.

No. 16: Auburn

Auburn was one of the multiple SEC teams on a bye in Week 9. Going idle helped them, with turmoil throughout this weekend’s games that moved multiple top-15 teams to the back of the top 25. It will be tough for the Tigers to keep this spot, or be anywhere near the rankings, as they still have Texas A&M, Georgia and Alabama on the schedule.
